A healthy, mature relationship is one where both parties respect each other. While cultural norm dictates that for the early weeks of courtship men must foot the bill, open the car door for the woman, or pull the chair for her, women must show respect to her man as well.
Happy relationships always involve give and take, so exchanging respectful gestures with your man can make your relationship grow into an ideal one where equality, independence, and love are major themes.
So how do you exhibit respect for your man? Below are the following ways.
Ask for help, but don't nag.
Men have always been the ones to fix the problems around the house so if you've asked him to fix the dryer, don't keep hounding him about it if he hasn't taken action yet. Chances are that he's still looking into the best ways to do it or his mind is occupied with more pressing things.
If he still hasn't done it after a long while, politely bring it up again instead of nagging him. You can also fix it yourself if you have the capacity and he might take it as a sign that he completely dropped the ball on the whole thing.
Also, if you ask for something done, don't expect him to quit what he's doing and jump right to it unless it's absolutely urgent.
Don't be overbearing.
Men value their independence, so even if you think you've mastered doing certain things it doesn't give you dominion over him when approaching a task. Avoid controlling him but show that you trust his judgment and that you respect his methods even if you don't wholeheartedly agree with them.
If you've been walking the dog ever since and he's taken it upon himself to try, then allow him to figure things out on his own instead of giving him a walkthrough of all the do's and don'ts unless, of course, he asks.
Give him alone time.
"Me" time is precious to men. Despite of the fact that he loves having you around, he is likely to appreciate it if you suggest that he has alone time with his buddies. It gives him an opportunity to breathe or blow off some steam with a night with the guys. If you find yourself alone during this time, you can call up your lady friends too and have them over for some wine. Win-win!
Respect his privacy
You may be in a relationship together, but you are still each of your own person. Don't snoop around on his social media account if he left it logged in on the laptop, and absolutely do not read his texts. If he truly values your relationship, you can trust that he won't do anything fishy when you're not around
Show interest in his hobbies
While you don't have to participate in the things he likes doing, it always helps to listen to him talk about what he's interested in. Has he gotten to a high-level warlock character in his favorite online game? Who do you think will win this season's playoffs? Show him that you've been listening by commenting on his interests the next time it's appropriate.
Keep your cool
There will always be arguments, but handling them in a calm manner will show him that you aren't there to just talk his ear off about something that upset you. Instead, try to calmly explain to him what made you upset.
While you can't solve problems right away, it helps the relationship if you choose to approach problems with dignity and respect for your man.
Men may love looking macho, but they love being respected even more. So take these tips in mind when you're with him and you've got a good shot at making him feel like a true man.
