At datememe we are really excited for google io 2016. We are eager to learn about what's going on with VR and how google is helping the web surpass native as a real platform for apps.

Based on the schedule you will notice that progressive web applications are going to be talked about a lot.

We built datememe as a progressive web app from the ground up using tools like swPrecache and ServiceWorker.

A progressive web app is one that uses a service worker to cache resources after the first page load. Service worker cache is easy to get working in comparison to previous HTML5 technologies like appcache, webworkers and notifications.

Google chrome will a automatically show a banner to install your web app as an application with a home screen link on android and ios (coming soon).

gcm push notifications

Google Chrome on Win/Linux/OSX, Android and iOS (coming soon) supports notifications that do not require to be running to receive the notification.

client side caching & offline use

With Service worker application cache using sw-toolbox it's easy to cache not only your app shell but also results of rest api calls, thumbnails and full size images making your app load fast on the second trip and also work offline or when the internet is slow or high latency.
